Our Impact
Our work at High House has always been about more than a day in the diary. From the first walk across the lawn to the last dance in the orangery, every celebration here is shaped by the people who bring it to life. Our team, our growers, our suppliers, and our neighbours in the Crouch Valley.
Becoming a Certified B Corporation™ is an ambitious way of holding ourselves accountable to how we look after those people, as well as the experience we create for every couple.
We’re now a Certified B Corporation™
Certified B Corporations™ are businesses independently verified by B Lab as meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.
For a wedding venue, that means our day-to-day operations, from how we support our team to how we work with suppliers, have been assessed against a recognised global framework.
B Corp certification isn’t a one-off achievement for us. It anchors a long-term culture and strategy at High House, shaping how we make decisions, set targets and grow as a business in the years ahead.
High House was certified in March 2026 under B Lab’s V1.6 standards.
Our score
Certification requires a verified score conducted over four evidence-driven assessment stages by the Global B Lab team.
The median score for businesses completing the assessment is 50.9. The sector average score for certified B Corps is 81.0.
High House was verified at 90.5.
That culture reflects the systems and practices behind how we run the venue, from our team and supply chain to the experience we create for couples.
What that looks like here
Looking after our team
Hospitality is a people-first industry. The team who welcome your guests, run the day, and keep everything moving are central to every wedding here.
We are an accredited Real Living Wage employer through Living Wage UK. That means we commit to paying a wage based on the real cost of living, rather than the statutory minimum. We’re proud to be part of the 0.4% of UK hospitality businesses that value fair pay.
Alongside this, our approach to scheduling, team support and day-to-day operations is part of what was assessed through our B Corp certification.
Food rooted in place
Our 30-mile menu is one of the most visible parts of how we operate. Around 80% of the fresh produce served at High House is sourced within 30 miles of the venue.
This keeps our supply chain close to home and supports local growers, fishers and producers across the Crouch Valley.
We are also:
-
Now powered by renewable electricity tariffs across the venue
-
Working with a zero-to-landfill waste partner
There are also many other ongoing changes we continue to build on each year.
High House was certified in March 2026 under B Lab’s V1.6 standards.
Caring for our corner of Essex
Water use is a key focus for us.
Across the venue we use:
-
Low-flow taps, toilets and showerheads
-
Low-volume irrigation
-
Rainwater harvesting for non-potable use
Our target for 2026 is to reduce water use to below 35,000 litres per wedding — a saving of approximately 5,000 litres per wedding compared to 2024, or around 750,000 litres per year.
We are continuing to track this closely and expect to refine both our systems and targets over time.
Keeping value in the local economy
In the past year, High House invested £2.56 million into its local supply chain.
Our recommended suppliers are largely independent businesses based nearby, and around 64% of third-party suppliers booked by our couples come through those recommendations.
This is an area we will continue to monitor, particularly as we look at how much of that spend can remain local as we grow.
Champions on the ground
Our Social Impact Champions are members of the High House team who help turn commitments into day-to-day practice.
They surface ideas, track progress and make sure the work behind this page, and behind the scenes, reflects what actually happens on the ground.
What it means for our couples
For couples, the feel of a wedding at High House remains the same.
What certification adds is transparency around how the venue operates behind the scenes.
It means:
-
We are independently assessed against globally recognised standards
-
We are committed to fair pay through Real Living Wage accreditation
-
We prioritise local sourcing where possible
We continue to track and improve our environmental and social impact
If you’d like to see how this comes together on a wedding day, we’d love to welcome you to High House.
